Buying training for multiple employees should start with the requirements, not the provider. This checklist helps you verify the scope of each course, the work that still needs hands-on training, and the records your team should keep.
One course is rarely the whole plan
For example, forklift operators need practical workplace evaluation, while covered HAZWOPER site workers may need supervised field experience. DOT Hazmat training must also match the employee’s actual functions. A provider’s completion certificate does not shift an employer’s responsibilities onto that provider.

What to request from a supplier
Course details: A written syllabus, course identifier, source requirements, language, format, prerequisites, test and completion criteria.
Employer administration: Support hours, roster upload, seat transfer policy, completion exports, replacement certificates and available reporting.
Commercial details: Price per seat, volume breaks, payment, refunds, expiration of unused seats and renewal conditions.
Limits: Clear identification of any workplace-specific instruction, practical evaluation, supervised experience, or employer documentation the vendor does not deliver.
Examples by training category
Forklift operators: Formal lessons alone do not replace supervised practice and a workplace evaluation. See the forklift requirements.
DOT Hazmat: Required components depend on employee function and include recurrent training at least every three years. See the hazmat training components.
HAZWOPER: Some covered workers require supervised field experience in addition to the instructional hours. See initial training paths.
CDL/ELDT: The provider’s Training Provider Registry status and the correct theory or behind-the-wheel program matter. See ELDT paths.
Create a purchase record
For each learner, record the job function, rule or contract, provider legal name, product ID, order date, completed coursework, skills evaluation or field experience, who signed off, and the next refresher or review date. Retention requirements vary.
